Ugadi Thali

Celebrating the Hindu New Year with flavours from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka for 3 days of festive eating.

The word ‘Ugadi' comes from the Sanskrit words ‘Yuga’. meaning age and ‘Adi’ meaning beginning, signifying spring and a time for hope, joy and renewal.

Ugadi’s culinary centerpiece is ugadi pachadi, a special kind of chutney made up for 6 flavors - sweet, sour, bitter, tangy, spicy and salty. Made up of jaggery for the sweetness, tamarind for the sourness, neem flowers for bitterness, raw mangoes for tang, black pepper for spicy and a bit of salt, it represents the many flavors of life that we all go through.

At Dakshin Canteen we are celebrating Ugadi with a special festive edit thali that includes specialities including Cabbage Thokku, Dosakkai Pappu, Garlic Rasam, Banana Dosa and Gasalu Payasam.
